Hellboy vs. Nightcrawler by Dimension-Dino

Ray: They're demonic in appearance and can send most people running with a look alone.

Steel: But honestly, they're nice guys and are not above laying the smackdown on the bad guys, all while proving that you can be Catholic and awesome at the same time!

Ray: Hellboy, Son of the Fallen One...

Steel: And Nightcrawler of the X-Men.

Ray: I'm Ray and he's Steel, and it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE.

Hellboy by Dimension-Dino
HELLBOY...
First Appearance: "Dime Press #4"
Real Name: Anung Un Rama

Age: Over 70 (appears in his thirties, though)
Height: 6'11"
Weight: 396lbs
Affiliation: BPRD (formerly)
Likes candy, TV, pancakes, and cats

Theme:

FEATS...
Protected Earth from imminent destruction on many occasions
Defeated many different monsters and steampunk machines/cyborgs across the globe
Fought off rampaging deities, other demons, and powerful sorcerers
Rightful crown to Hell and England
Promptly looks his destiny in the eye and says "screw you"
Gained momentary rights to the Golden Army (movies)
Almost brought Hell on Earth (movies)
Married Elizabeth Sherman and fathered twins (movies)

Ray: The year was 1944 and the Nazis were getting desperate to gain the upper hand in World War II.

Steel: And because this is the world of comics we're talking about, they of course turned to the occult and combined dark magic and science to open a portal to Hell. Gee, do ya think they ever considered that the demons they unleashed would kill THEM as well as everyone else?

Ray: It's best not to think about it. Anyway, U.S. Troops and a paranormal researcher named Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm managed to stop their plot, but it was too late. The portal that the Nazis opened brought a strange creature into the human world.

Steel: A red-skinned baby monkey with horns a giant rocky hand.

Hellboy Baby by Dimension-Dino
(Cute little devilspawn, ain't he?)

Steel: Because the little guy was more lost and confused than dangerous, the boys took him in and raised him as they would any ordinary guy, all while giving him the most awesome codename ever--HELLBOY.

Ray: The group that stopped the Nazis would go on to found the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, and Hellboy would go on to be their go-to agent and monster hunter. Easy to see why, seeing as he now stands almost seven feet tall and weighs in at almost four-hundred pounds.

Steel: As indicated by this frame, Hellboy is incredibly strong, able to uproot trees, sock it to enemies larger than himself or throw them around, and kick down giant stone pillars. He's also deceptively quick and agile for his gorilla-like build, able to leap great distances, climb around, and match other monsters of similar origin in a sprint.

Ray: Hellboy wouldn't be the great monster killer he is without some insane durability. He has been impaled by multiple spears, tanked bullets from an MG42 (one of the deadliest machine guns the Nazis used), landed from high falls without getting his femurs driven into his spleen, and can keep fighting even after getting brutally beaten by the giant monsters he regularly takes on.

Steel: Guy's also got a healing factor that repairs even serious wounds very quickly, such as a gun blowing up in his face and turning him into a bloody mess. A few pages later in the comic and he's fine, though! Last but not least is that he's immune to fire, heat, and electricity!

Ray: Whether or not this is his demonic nature or his healing factor repairing the damage too fast for fire to do significant damage, nobody knows. Hellboy is also not just a muscular thug, he's actually quite brilliant. He can speak, understand, and write almost any language (even ones of mystic origin) and has vast knowledge on mythology and the occult.

POWERS/ABILITIES...
Strength
-Likely to press at least two tons
-Can break solid stone
Speed
-Deceptively quick and agile for his size
-Pretty good parkour practioner
Good jumper
Durability/Endurance
-Tanked MG42 auto-fire and lived to tell about it
-Has survived impalement multiple times
-Seems to be immune to holy objects like crosses and holy water

Healing Factor
-Heals from mentioned wounds in very short spans of time
-Even survives point-blank explosions
-Fireproof, likely due to his demonic nature
Knowledge
-Can speak, write, and understand almost every language
-Vast knowledge on various mythologies and the occult
Tail
-At least three feet long
-Prehensile enough to grip objects
-Unknown if it can support Hellboy's weight, though

Proficient swordsman, hand-to-hand combatant, and marksman

Steel: Like any badass, Hellboy packs some serious weaponry. His most-used one is his stone gauntlet, the Right Hand of Doom.

Ray: Actually, it's not a gauntlet or glove. That's Hellboy's own hand. Stone-like in appearance, it's virtually indestructible and doesn't feel pain. This makes it an extremely handy tool to have, no pun intended. He's also quite flexible and quick with it, able to catch a fly in mid-flight.

Steel: It can break through walls, dent metal, block swords, and deliver hammer blows that force-feeds his enemies their own teeth. But what good is a monster-hunter without some ranged options? The Good Samaritan is his trademark handgun, firing custom-made, hi-caliber bullets that Hellboy himself made.

Ray: Hellboy, due to his line of work, carries a number of trinkets and amulets that he can use for varying purposes, like warding off evil, heal the wounds of others, and even raise the dead for clues and advice. Other devices he carries include timed incendiary explosives to wipe out hordes of enemies, a flightpack with a tendency to malfunction and explode, and even the legendary Excalibur which, by possession alone, makes him the rightful King of England.

Steel: Not sure how the fans over in the UK would react to that, but I wouldn't complain, honestly. Politics need more guys like HB. But his biggest and baddest weapon is none other than Big Baby! This portable death machine fires mini-rockets that can topple a rampaging Forest God! I know what I'M wanting for my birthday this year!

WEAPONS/GEAR...
HB Hand by Dimension-Dino
Right Hand of Doom
-Hellboy's right hand
-Powerful bludgeoning weapon
-Can unlock doors to the dark world
-Feels no pain, making for a good blocking tool
-Can punch through steel and stone
HB Gun by Dimension-Dino
The Good Samaritan
-Hellboy's preferred handgun
-Too big for a human to wield
-Uses custom-made, hi-caliber bullets
-Contains silver shavings, clover leaf, holy water, and many things evil is weak against
-Rounds: 4
-Can jam at times
Big Baby by Dimension-Dino
Big Baby
-Hellboy's strongest gun
-Hi-power launcher that fires miniature rockets
-Rounds: 6 (fires two at a time)
-Killed a rampaging Forest God with it
Hellboy Excalibur by Dimension-Dino
Excalibur
-The sword of King Arthur
-Likely to be magical in nature
-Makes Hellboy King of England by right
Hellboy jetpack by Dimension-Dino
(I got nothing. Hellboy said it all for me.)
Flight Pack
-Allows Hellboy to fly
-One time he used it, it exploded and sent him careening to an island
Incendiary Explosives
-Timed belt of napalm explosives
-Used to destroy large numbers of enemies
-Destroyed a giant, tentacled monster
-Massive blast radius

Ray: But Hellboy's greatest ability lies in his heritage. Being the son of Satan himself, he is the rightful heir to its throne and, should he accept this part of him, he will enter his Prince of Hell state.

Steel: The good news? All his physical abilities skyrocket from strength to speed to healing factor. He becomes a ruthless monster with no regard for human life. He can snap out of it, though, at the cost of giving up this immense power.

Prince of Hell by Dimension-Dino
PRINCE OF HELL...
Causes horns to grow to full length and symbols on right hand to glow
Unleashes Hellboy's demonic powers to their fullest
-Massive upgrade of powers
-Increases strength, speed, reaction time, durability, and healing factor
Can unlock the door to Armaggeddon

Ray: Hellboy has fought a plethora of bad guys and come out on top--Assassins, homunculi, ghosts, mythical entities, genetically-enhanced monsters, steampunk cyborgs, Neo-Nazis, warlocks, witches, rampaging deities, serpent goddesses, and even his own hellish kin. He has even taken on children that could turn their spirits into Godzilla, a Gundam, and Sailor Moon.
Hb1 by Dimension-Dino Hb2 by Dimension-Dino
Hb3 by Dimension-Dino Hb4 by Dimension-Dino
(YES...THIS IS REAL.)

Steel: But even the coolest of fighters have their fair share of weaknesses. Hellboy has a good healing factor, but he's no Wolverine. Enough severe damage to him can do him in. And considering he's got at least two items likely to blow up in his face, that could spell trouble.

Ray: Hellboy's biggest flaw, though, is that his pretty short temper can cloud his judgment at times. He's also quite impulsive and tends to disregard rules. Such a time was when he was given the chance to wait out a troll returning to the Troll Market, but when a cat was in danger of getting eaten, he just went "screw it" and got the location the best way he knew how--HIS way.

WEAKNESSES...
Healing Factor is not Wolverine-level by any means
-Enough serious damage can kill him
Some malfunctions in weapons/gear
-Jetpack and Samaritan in particular
Pretty short-tempered, impulsive, and not one to follow rules

Steel: Well, regardless of his faults, one thing can never be denied. Hellboy is a bonafide BADASS and, should you doubt it, take in mind that he could end the world at a moment's notice, but chooses not to. So, that makes him an...anti-Antichrist, maybe?

(Hellboy: Then why don't you just start with me, your royal ASS-NESS?)

Nightcrawler by Dimension-Dino

NIGHTCRAWLER...
First Appearance: "Giant Size X-Men Vol 1#1" (1975)
Real Name: Kurt Wagner
Age: Estimated 30's
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 161lbs
Affiliation: Prof. X and the X-Men
Theme:

FEATS...
Helped defeat Krakoa

Went toe-to-toe with Spider-Man and stood on equal ground
Teleported almost three miles
Rescued Wolverine from insanity
Defended heaven when Azazel attacked

Ray: Born in Bavaria to the shapeshifting mutant Mystique, Kurt was immediately met with...disapproval from society, who believed him to be a demon.

Steel: Considering most babies aren't born with blue fur, three fingers, two toes, a pointy tail, yellow eyes, or any combination of the above, easy to see why.

Baby Nightcrawler by Dimension-Dino
(Hellboy looked cute as a baby. Nightcrawler? Not so much.)

Ray: Believed to be a demonspawn, Mystique took a leaf from the book of Moses and set her baby adrift on a river to save both of their lives. Baby Kurt was later found and raised by gypsies who made him a part of their circus. Kurt would go from acrobat to sideshow freak and his...accidental destroying of the circus would lead him to a church where his Catholic faith would emerge.

Steel: After getting cornered, our blue-furred mutant was discovered by the Xavier Institute's cueball headmaster, Charles Xavier, and took up the codename "Nightcrawler". He DOES know that's another name for a giant earthworm, right?

Ray: Regardless, Nightcrawler has proven to be a valuable asset to the X-Men. His time in the circus certainly paid off, for he is superhumanly flexible and agile.

Steel: How flexible and agile? How about dodging machine gun fire, able to hold just about any pose, and is acrobatic enough to rival Spider-Man! Y'know, that one guy who can defeat guys faster than the eye can register, walk through squads of machine gun fire unscathed, and probably killed a few of your favorite DC characters? (awkward pause) That one.

Ray: While he's an impressive hand-to-hand combatant, Kurt will occasionally bring weapons with him into combat. His personal choice are sabers, though he has regularly used escrima sticks for nonlethal missions.

PHYSICALITY...
Remarkably agile and flexible
-Honed during his circus days
-Enough to be Spider-Man's near-equal
-Can hold almost any pose with little discomfort
Peak human physicality
Inhuman reflexes
-Has avoided machine gun fire

WEAPONS...
NC Swords by Dimension-Dino
Sabers
-Can use up to three of them using his tail as an extra hand
-A trained and true fencer
NC Escrima by Dimension-Dino
Escrima Sticks

-Short clubs
-Used for non-lethal attacks

Steel: But let's get to the REAL interesting part of our blue monkey--his powers. Kurt is a mutant, and no that's not just appearance we're talking about.

Ray: In the Marvel Universe, there are humans that are born with superpowers and are considered the next step in evolution for mankind, called "Homo superior". Kurt has a plethora of mutant abilities, such as clinging to walls like Spider-Man, his prehensile tail that can lift a grown person off the ground, and nightvision.

Steel: But his most iconic power is his teleportation ability, where he vanishes in a puff of smoke, emitting the trademark "BAMF" sound effect, and reappears somewhere else.

Bamf by Dimension-Dino

Ray: It's actually a bit more complicated than that. See, when Kurt teleports, he briefly opens a dimensional rift to a Hellish dimension and goes through it. He then reappears by doing the same process and the smoke that escapes through each teleportation is basically smoke escaping from the fiery pit.

Steel: ...I'm sorry, but WHAT?!

Ray: A long, complicated wormhole process that happens almost too fast for the naked eye.

Steel: Got it. Worm-boy here can warp a maximum three miles with each smoke cloud. He once teleport-hopped all the way from the island nation of Genosha to the American shores close to the Xavier Institute.

Ray: Based on sources from Marvel, Genosha is somewhere in between Madagascar and Seychelles. To get to Xavier Institute, which is also confirmed by Marvel to be someplace in Salem, New York, Kurt would have to teleport almost eight-and-a-half THOUSAND miles. Considering he went all-out with each teleport, he would have to have teleported over twenty-eight-hundred times. Sure, he was completely exhausted by the end of it, but it's still an impressive show of his ability.

Distance between Seychelles and New York (crossing Africa): 8,442 miles (13,586 kilometers)
Nightcrawler's max teleport distance: 3 miles (about 5 kilometers)
8,442/3 = 2,814 teleports

Steel: Well, moving on from that geography and math lesson, Nightcrawler also has a brutal side to him. He has teleported a hungry shark into the gut of the Blob to have him eaten inside-out, and can teleport the limbs off of enemies.

Ray: For a guy raised as a passive monk for most of his life, he sure knows how to be vicious.

POWERS AND ABILITIES...
Born a mutant
-Humans classified as "Homo superior"
-Born with special powers

Teleportation
-Briefly vanishes into another dimensions and reappears from within it
-Max Range: 3 miles without any passengers
-Can teleport along with anything he touches
-Teleported at least thirty children at one time

-Has teleported limbs off of foes in the past
Wall-Crawling
-Can cling to almost any surface like Spider-Man
Nightvision
-Can see in almost total-darkness
-Indicated by his yellow eyes

Prehensile Tail
-At least 3 1/2 feet long
-Can support Kurt's entire body weight and lift a grown man
-Can grip objects and weapons like an extra hand

Steel: With all those powers, though, there's quite a gap between Kurt and HB, especially in the durability factor. While the Big Red can tank bullets with ease, the Not-So-Big Blue will get offed by methods that can kill normal humans.

Ray: While not technically a full demon, Kurt is descended from mutants of demonic nature (dating all the way back to Biblical Times, too). So, while angel blood will cure a human, it will cause Kurt pain instead. Also, Nightcrawler's teleportation has more than a few drawbacks. If he's transporting more than just himself and the clothes on his back, he will quickly tire out the more he does this.

Steel: He also needs focus to teleport long distances or to specific locations in the right position and, as indicated by his Genosha-America hopping, repeated teleportations can quickly wear him out. Also, if an object is right where his chest will be when he teleports, it will basically impale and potentially kill him.

Death-Nightcrawler by Dimension-Dino

WEAKNESSES...
Human durability and strength as a whole
-Peak human at BEST

Angelic Weapons and Blood
-Rooted in his demonic ancestry
Teleportation has catches
-Requires more effort to teleport more than just himself
-Multiple teleports can put strain on his body and mind
-Must focus when teleporting long distances
-If an object is right where he teleports, it will be stuck in his body and potentially kill him

Ray: Flaws aside, Nightcrawler is a man of the cloth, but not above fighting when he has to do it.

Steel: The monkey man has fought off his father's attempt at invading Paradise, restored Wolverine's mind from insanity in Hell, returned to our world from the afterlife itself, and helped the X-Men defeat the evil Krakoa. Why isn't this guy getting more attention?!

Ray: Because people will always prefer bad-boys whose backstories are retold ad nauseum. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Wolverine.

(Nightcrawler: Someone so beautiful should not be so angry.
Storm: Sometimes anger can help you survive.
Nightcrawler: So can faith.)
It's red against blue, and demon against demon. Will Hellboy smash the competition or will Nightcrawler be too quick?

Kurt has teleported thousands of miles before and even over 500 miles at near death.

Just saying.
