Jack vs. Booker by Dimension-Dino

Ray: Ah, Bioshock, a world of the weird, the dark, and the absolutely terrifying. Yet these two men walked straight in, albeit involuntarily, and took the beasts head-on.

Steel: Jack, the man who braved Rapture’s watery fright-fest.

Ray: And Booker, the man who brought down the flying city of Columbia. Because of their vast and customizable arsenal, we will be equipping these two with fully-upgraded weapons, plasmids and vigors, and will only equip them with abilities that would be useful in a one-on-one fight.

Steel: Considering many Plasmids only work on machines or Big Daddies, it’s easy to see why we would exclude them. Also, we will be observing Booker from the original “Bioshock Infinite”, so no “Burial at Sea” vigors/plasmids for him.

Ray: I’m Ray and he’s Steel, and it’s our job to analyze the weapons, armor, and skills of these two combatants to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE.

Jack by Dimension-Dino

JACK WYNAND RYAN…
First Appearance: “Bioshock” (2007)
Age: 4 (physically appears 24)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: Unknown
Background: Born and bred to kill Andrew Ryan

FEATS…
Killed Big Daddies regularly
-Either saves Little Sisters or kills them
Became a legend in Rapture
-Either a hero or the new Lord of Rapture
Fought through hordes of genetic monsters and killing machines
Killed Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine

Ray: Born the illegitimate son to Rapture big-head Andrew Ryan, Jack was smuggled out of the city and became a test subject at birth. He underwent growth acceleration and mind alteration during the procedure to the point that he resembled a grown man when he was only four years old.

Steel: Good thing they fabricated an adult life for him. Just imagine how awkward it would be to see this guy in a day care.

Ray: On returning to Rapture, Jack would become a means to an end. He was made, specifically, to kill Andrew Ryan, the city’s top dog.

Steel: Not such an easy task considering that the ruins of Rapture were crawling with mutant freaks, gun-toting security robots, and guys that look like THIS!

Big Daddy by Dimension-Dino

Steel: Yeah. FREAKING SCARY!

Ray: Jack has a natural instinct when it comes to combat. He was armed with all kinds of weapons, which he can carry all at once somehow, and each weapon has an upgrade allowing for things like more ammo, higher damage, less kick, and more. First and foremost is the revolver. It’s a common six-shooter, plain and simple, but when upgraded, it can actually hold up to 24 rounds.

Steel: The Machine Gun is a good ol’ fashioned Chicago Typewriter, designed to mow down multitudes of enemies, while the Shotgun is his near insta-kill boomstick of death. But to put a little more bang in his buck, he has a GRENADE LAUNCHER.

Ray: The Chemical Thrower can shoot streams of liquids like highly-flammable napalm, liquid nitrogen to freeze enemies, and electrical gel to shock and stun them. Then there’s the crossbow-

Steel: A crossbow? In a game where you have explosives, machine guns, and boomsticks, you’re given a CROSSBOW?

Ray: Well, it’s stealthy for starters. It makes no noise when it’s fired. Second is that its ammo is actually retrievable, providing it doesn’t break on impact. And if it gets a good enough shot, it does even MORE damage than most firearms.

Steel: WHAT?! That doesn’t make any sense! Well, if all guns are out of commission, Jack can use his trusted wrench to bash a few heads in.

Ray: But who said that standard bullets are all that Jack’s firearms can fire? His handgun and machine gun can fire armor-piercing rounds and anti-personnel rounds to take out armored and non-armored foes respectively.

Steel: The shotgun can fire rounds that will electrocute the crap out of people or just blow them to pieces with explosive rounds. And for my favorite, the grenade launcher, he can launch proximity mines or FREAKING ROCKETS!!!

Ray: Well, then you might be surprised by what the Crossbow has to offer. Along with average bolts, it can fire incendiary ammo that will explode on contact-

Steel: WHAT?!

Ray: And he can fire bolts that will transform into electrified tripwires, too.

Steel: (long pause) I take it all back. The crossbow isn’t so wimpy anymore!

SPECIAL AMMO…
Pistol
-Armor-Piercing: Does extra damage to Big Daddies and Machines
-Anti-Personnel: Does extra damage to humanoid targets like Splicers

-Incendiary Bolt: Explodes on contact and ignites target
-Trap Bolt: On impact, bolt creates an electric tripwire

Ray: But guns are not the only thing that Jack will bring to the battle. He has a plethora of plasmids to aid him in battle.

Steel: Think of plasmids as genetic enhancements to the body that basically give a guy superpowers. Such abilities include setting objects on fire, electrocution, freezing enemies so you can smash them into pieces, creating gusts of wind, pulling objects towards you, and creating decoys for quick escapes.

Ray: Plasmids are fueled by EVE, which is injected into the bloodstream with hypodermic needles.

Steel: WORST. RELOAD. EVER. And to continue with the topic, he can carry up to nine of those needles and nine health kits to patch himself up if he gets hurt.

Ray: Is Jack a perfect fighter? No. He can only access about five plasmids at a time and they are fixed in place until he can find a Gene Bank.

Steel: And while many medical kits can keep him on his feet, he has little means of protecting himself outside of plain evasion.

WEAKNESSES…
Can only utilize five plasmids at a time
-Requires gene bank to swap out and access others
Limited weapon variety
Few means of defense
-Serious damage in short spans of time may kill him

Ray: But Jack’s fate is a mixed one. He is either a great hero, a tragic martyr, or the most evil man to ever exist. Either way, he is a legend to the world. It is just uncertain as to what type he is.

(Atlas: Now would you kindly head to Ryan's office and kill the son of a bitch?)

Booker by Dimension-Dino
BOOKER DEWITT…
First Appearance: “Bioshock Infinite” (2013)
Age: 38
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 190lbs
Background: Soldier at Wounded Knee, Pinkerton Agent, Hitman

FEATS…
Took on two separate armies
Defeated automatons and steampunk cyborgs
Rescued Elizabeth from cycle of pain
Helped change reality multiple times
Existed in several different realities
-Visionary
-Rebel and martyr
-Investigator

Ray: Booker Dewitt was a former soldier and Pinkerton agent…

Steel: What’s a Pinkerton agent? Essentially, a hitman and spy. If someone was deemed suspicious or troublemaking, they’d hire Booker to take them out.

Ray: But Booker was always hip-deep in debt and financial troubles until he was approached with a deal. He would travel to a city in the clouds, Columbia, to retrieve a girl named Elizabeth. “Bring us the girl, wipe away the debt.”

Steel: But Columbia wouldn’t let her go without a fight and did everything in their power to put them down. Luckily for Liz, Booker turned out to be one heck of a survivalist and warrior. What other guy do you know who can take down automatons, cyberpunk cyborgs, and entire squadrons of soldiers with nothing but a few guns?

Ray: The first weapon Booker acquired was the Sky-Hook. This device allows Booker to rip apart enemies by jamming its rotating hooks into their head or neck. It can also latch onto freight hooks and skylines for fast and easy travel.

Steel: When used on the skylines, the Hook becomes a roller coaster that you hold in your hand. And, at a good enough height, Booker can execute a sky-line strike that sends most enemies that aren’t armored or bolted down flying back so far that they never come down alive.

Ray: Being a former soldier, Booker is most comfortable using a gun. He is proficient with just about any firearm, even one he has never picked up in his past.

Steel: Like Jackie, he has his fair share of weapons like handguns, shotguns, machine guns, and grenade launchers. But he has a few more to choose from like the Hand Cannon, a tiny revolver with a ton of power. I don’t care what type of armor you’re wearing, two or three shots from this thing and you’re done.

Ray: Some of Booker’s other weapons include Carbines, Sniper Rifles, and the hard-to-find, steampunk version of a chaingun, the Crank Gun.

Steel: They’re hard to find, but when you DO, it’s full-auto FUN filled with maximum destruction!

Ray: Booker even makes use of weapons from an alternate reality where the Vox Populi, the oppressed rebel group, turned Columbia into a hellhole. Such weapons include incendiary shotguns, automatic rifles, three-burst rifles, and timed grenade launchers.

Ray: Like his opponent, Booker also has genetic enhancements to give him power. This time, they have been modified so that they can be gained by consumption instead of injection. These abilities are known as “Too Lazy to Look This Up”-what? Steel, you actually wrote that down?

Steel: Sue me.

Ray: Well, fine, I’ll make it up then. Abilities known as “My partner’s an idiot and his team are a bunch of”-Oh! Vigors. Thank you.

Steel: You can insult ME, but you insult my team and I’ll have to introduce ya to Sally sometime.

Ray: You NAMED your chainsaw? Never mind. We’re moving on. Vigors come in the form of a bottled drink and grant powers to people who consume them. The first Booker received was “Possession”. Originally designed to possess machines and turn them into allies, it can be modified to affect human targets, too. After it has worn off, more often than not, they’ll commit suicide. And, if charged properly, it can create a landmine-esque trap that will possess anyone who steps on it.

Steel: Devil’s Kiss takes Mario’s Fire Flower abilities to a new extreme, throwing fiery, explosive grenades or setting up explosive traps. It’s a built in explosive arsenal IN A DRINK! Murder of Crows is a vigor that summons a flock of flesh-eating crows to stun the enemy and rip off chunks of their flesh. One can also create traps to a similar fate and those killed by the crows will actually become Crow Traps themselves. Death by bird, what a way to go…

Ray: Bucking Bronco sends shockwaves that will send enemies into the air and suspend them, making them more vulnerable to attack, Shock Jockey has the option to electrocute enemies or create a network of deadly electrical current, and Undertow can either wash enemies away or create a tentacle of water to drag multiple enemies in close for an easy kill.

Steel: The “Charge!” vigor sends Booker flying forward to ram into the enemy, which is useful for crossing distances. The longer it charges, the stronger it becomes. But one of the best vigors to use in chaotic gunfights is “Return to Sender”. This handy vigor creates a bulletproof shield and, when charged, can actually catch bullets, turn them into Booker’s own ammo, and create an explosive sphere of death that can be thrown at enemies or create an explosive trap.

VIGORS…
Similar to Plasmids
Chemically altered so that they can be consumed instead of injected
Fueled by Salts

Possession by Dimension-Dino
Possession
-Takes over enemy soldiers and machines
-Humans affected typically commit suicide after it wears off
-When charged, can create a trap that possesses any that step on it
-Requires more salts than any other vigor

Devil's Kiss by Dimension-Dino
Devil’s Kiss
-Allows user to throw fiery grenades
-Grenades can create fiery clusters for broader range
-When charged, can create an explosive trap

Murder of Crows by Dimension-Dino
Murder of Crows
-Sends out a flock of flesh-eating crows
-When charged, creates a trap that attacks anyone in range
-Targets killed become Crow Traps
-Does not work on machines

Bucking Bronco by Dimension-Dino
Bucking Bronco
-Forward-going shockwave that suspends targets in the air
-Targets more vulnerable when suspended
-When charged, creates trap that sends targets into the air
-Suspension time is limited

Shock Jockey by Dimension-Dino
Shock Jockey
-Allows user to fire spears of electricity
-When charged, creates series of crystals that create electrical fields
-Targets electrocuted will also shock enemies that are too close

Undertow by Dimension-Dino
Undertow
-Creates current of water to knock enemies back
-When charged, creates tentacle to ensnare enemies and pull them closer

Charge! by Dimension-Dino
Charge!
-Sends Booker rushing forward, covered in raging whirlwinds
-When charged, increases the strength of the attack and goes farther
-Ideal for helping cross distances

Return to Sender by Dimension-Dino
Return to Sender
-Creates bulletproof shield for a brief time
-When charged, allows Booker to catch bullets
-Caught bullets add on to Booker’s ammo
-Bullets form explosive sphere that can either be a direct attack or set up as a trap

Ray: But Vigors are not the only known abilities Booker has. Early on in his adventure, the Lutece twins gave him an electromagnetic shield. This invisible field around Booker’s body can protect him from gunfire for brief periods of time. While it does regenerate after five seconds, extensive damage may shatter it, leaving Booker vulnerable to attack. Also, this shield does not work on elemental attacks like fire or lightning.

Steel: And like just about every FPS protagonist, Booker is incredibly lucky. If he’s ever in a tight fix, he can usually find just the weapon, item, or ammo he needs someplace nearby. He once found pistol ammo in a BABY CARRIAGE. Geez, it’s amazing what the people of Columbia just throw away!

OTHER ABILITIES…
Shield
-Given to him by the Luteces
-Electromagnetic aura around his body
-Protects him for short periods
-Can break with enough damage
-Requires 5-second recharge time
Medical Kit
-Restores health depending on size
Salts
-Restores vigor usage amount
-Dependent on size
Extraordinary Luck
-Can usually find just the item he needs someplace nearby
-Ammo, health packs, salts

Ray: Compared to Jack, Booker may have the larger arsenal of weapons, but he can only carry two guns at a time and will have to use his luck to find another gun if he wants something different. Also, his vigors require consumption of chemicals known as salts. Some vigors require more than others and, if he doesn’t have enough salts, he can’t access some of them.

Steel: Can also be a problem if Booker can't stash health or salt phials to help set things up.

WEAKNESSES…
Can only carry two weapons at a time
Cannot stash/store Health Kits or Salt phials
Vigors require Salts to use
-Some use more than others

Steel: When all is said and done, Booker is still just plain hard to kill. Columbia has sent its worst after him and none of them succeeded in doing him in. He has even found the one solution to end Elizabeth’s suffering.

Ray: What was that solution? His own death.

(Elizabeth: Booker? Are you afraid of God?

Booker: No. But I’m afraid of you.)
It's a duel of BioShock protagonists as the False Shephard and Legend of Rapture prepare to trade bullets.
