Ray: In the distant future, the warrior of the future is a technologically-enhanced soldier known for beating the odds.

Steel: Megaman, the legendary Blue Bomber…

Ray: And Pulseman, the hi-voltage cyber-warrior. Because of the vast array of abilities Megaman has acquired over the years, we will be limiting him to what he has used in various fighting games including the “vs. Capcom” series and Smash Bros.

Steel: Considering Megaman has acquired over seventy-two different abilities in all of his games, probably a good idea. He’s Ray and I’m Steel…

Ray: And it’s our job to analyze the weapons, armor, and skills of these two warriors to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE.

--

MEGAMAN…
Age: 10 (AI programming)
Height: 4’4”
Weight: 230lbs
Alias: The Blue Bomber, Rockman, Rock
Creator: Dr. Thomas Light
Theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eikUKu…

FEATS…
Defeated the Robot Masters on several different occasions
Thwarted Dr. Wily’s evil plans
Destroyed other, more advanced robots on a regular basis
-Protoman
-Bass
-Among others
Regular savior of Roll, his fellow robot

Ray: In the year 200X-

Steel: Wait...two-thousand and X? What kinda year was that?

Ray: Heck if I know. Video games are bizarre. Anyway, in a not-yet-known future, Doctor Thomas Light worked on and perfected humanoid robots initially designed for helping mankind with its problems. Among them was a pair of household robots named Rock and Roll.

Steel: Oh-ho, I see what you did there, Capcom. Rock ‘n Roll, that’s clever. Back on track, it turned out that Light’s success had ticked someone off named Dr. Wily and, after getting his hands on the robo-person prototype Protoman, Wily quickly seized control of many of Light’s robots.

Ray: With no means of defense available at the time, Light reprogrammed the boy robot, Rock, into a blue battle machine to combat the Robot Masters and to topple Dr. Wily. The result was none other than the creation of the Blue Bomber himself; MEGAMAN.

Ray: Megaman comes into battle with his trademark blue armor, which is made from a flexible, ceramic titanium alloy and can protect him from most attacks, be it explosions, electricity, energy spheres, or even physical harm.

Steel: Even when it takes a hit, it will bend and retain its shape rather than break. Megs even has a compact supercomputer for a brain and special devices in his legs that increase his jumping abilities and allow him to land from great heights with no damage.

Ray: But this armor is NOT invincible. Extensive damage will force it beyond repair and cause him to explode. He will be fine, so long as he finds nanobots that will enforce his defenses and repair any damage he might take.

ROBOTIC BODY…
Flexible ceramic titanium alloy
-Resistant to most forms of damage
-Except pools of lava and large spikes apparently
-Bends and retains shape, but doesn’t break
Supercomputer brain
Solar power panels on top of head
-Generate power for him
Air pumps and shock absorbers
-Enhance jumping ability
-Cushions landing from high falls/jumps

Steel: But this little guy is not simply tough, he has to fight back or he won’t last long. His main go-to weapon is the Mega Buster, a nifty cannon built into his left hand. This semi-automatic laser gun can be charged up to two different power levels, each level requiring more time to ready, but doing far more damage than a standard shot.

Ray: But if Megaman is attacked mid-charge, he will lose his opportunity to fire. To make up for this, Megaman also has a few different abilities combined with it such as the Mega Arm, which fires his fist to either punch enemies or grab faraway items and bring them to him. The other is the Laser Shot, which fires a single beam that, though relatively weak, can go straight through enemies and hit others that might be behind them.

Steel: Megaman is, literally, FIRING HIS LAZAH! And if you thought he was strictly limited to just ranged attacks, think again! He can utilize the Mega Upper, a shoryuken-styled uppercut attack, and the dash, which can either slide-kick enemies or simply let him slide under attacks.

PRIMARY ATTACKS…
Mega Buster
-Cannon built into left arm
-Three chargeable levels (need time, though)
-Laser beam (goes through multiple targets)
Mega Arm
-Rocket punch
-Can grab faraway items and bring them to Megaman
Mega Upper
-Shoryuken-styled uppercut
Slide Dash
-Can slide-kick enemies
-Better used to slide under attacks and obstacles

Steel: But Megaman’s best assets in any fight are the many abilities he has obtained from the bajillion Robot Masters he has beaten.

Ray: Megaman can copy any weapon so long as he has seen it in use. This ability was most likely added to help take down the Robot Masters, seeing as some of their abilities are more effective against other Masters.

Steel: But let’s get right to the abilities that Smash has given him. We have some basic ones like the Top Spin, Hard Knuckles, Super Arm, which basically just give him a new physical ability. But then comes the cool stuff like electric spheres, fire blasts and swords, energy slashes, and mini-tornadoes.

Ray: But Megaman’s more notable abilities are the Metal Saw, which lets him throw a series of whirling saw-discs, the Crash Bomb, a sticky grenade basically, and Leaf Shield, which offers him protection.

Steel: How the heck can LEAVES be a good shield?

Ray: The same reason Pokemon use them as buzz-saws.

Steel: Point taken.

WEAPON COPY SYSTEM…
Top Spin
-Obtained from Top Man
-Megaman spins to attack enemies
-Momentarily increases speed
-Can be used on the move
-Stops when he hits something
Spark Shock
-Obtained from Spark Man
-Shoots electrical sphere
-Can momentarily paralyze most enemies
Flame Blast
-Obtained from Flame Man
-Throws fireballs
-On contact with ground, becomes a pillar of flame
Flame Sword
-Obtained from Sword Man
-Swings a sword of open flame
-Unlike Flame Blast, can ignite flammable substances
Slash Claw
-Obtained from Slash Man
-Short-range slash wave
-Can cut many substances
-Can reflect certain projectiles
Air Shooter
-Obtained from Air Man
-Fires three mini-tornadoes that spread out and rise up
-Good anti-air attack
Hard Knuckle
-Obtained from Hard Man
-Slow-but-strong rocket punch
-Ideal for punching through defenses
-Can break certain blocks
Super Arm
-Obtained from Guts Man
-Can pick up objects and enemies to throw them
Metal Blade
-Obtained from Metal Man
-Throws a series of metal buzz-saws
-Made from the same material as Megaman’s armor
-Can be thrown in many directions
Crash Bomb
-Obtained from Crash Man
-Fires a latchable bomb
-Can attach to surfaces and enemies before detonating
-5-second detonation time
Leaf Shield
-Obtained from Wood Man
-Series of leaves circle Megaman
-Protects him while stationary
-If he moves, will fire all leaves in that direction

Ray: While the Weapon Copy System is Megaman’s greatest asset, there is a catch he will have to work with. Each weapon can only be used a certain amount of times before he has to recharge it.

Steel: And while his ceramic-titanium armor is durable, it can only take so much damage before he blows up. Plus, while highly-concentrated energy blasts do minimal damage, he can still be killed by pools of lava, floor spikes, and pitfalls. Dr. Light musta been REAL drunk to miss that little flaw!

WEAKNESSES…
Armor is not impenetrable
Copied Weapons can be used a limited amount of times
Environmental hazards
-Lava pools
-Floor spikes
-Pitfalls

Ray: In spite of his flaws, Megaman has proven his worth on a regular basis. He has defeated dozens of superior models of humanoid robots, defeated the Robot Masters over nine different times, and thwarted the evil Dr. Wily several times over.

Steel: Light must be proud of his boy...robot...robo-boy...whatever. Now, if only Capcom could have just as much trust in him.

(Dr. Light: Megaman, fight for everlasting peace!)

PULSEMAN…
Age: 14
Height: 4’11”
Weight: 99lbs
Alias: The Half C-Life
Creator: Dr. Yoshiyama
Theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=54vHS-…

FEATS…
First ever human/C-Life hybrid
Can live in both cyberspace and the real world
Overthrew his own turned-evil father
Defeated Team Galaxy
Possible inspiration for the Pokemon, Rotom

Ray: In the distant future of 2001, mankind lives in an era of advanced computer technology. Then, one day, Dr. Yoshiyama created the most advanced Artificial Intelligence in the world known simply as C-Life.

Steel: Then...get this; he actually fell in love with the female-shaped A.I., digitized himself, and promptly made whoopee to her. (pause) Yes. You read that right.

Ray: When Yoshiyama left cyberspace, something went wrong. The transference warped his state of being and his mind, driving him insane to the point that he decided to take the world...and change his name to Waruyama.

Steel: Thought making whoopee to a computer program was weird? His little action had consequences when the data of the C-Life combined with his human DNA. A short time later and a human/C-Life hybrid was created; PULSEMAN.

Ray: Being part human, Pulseman can exist in the human world and the world of cyberspace and can freely travel between them via a computer connection, allowing him to fix computer problems, deal with dangerous viruses, and get into other locations by exiting other computers.

HYBRID NATURE…
Half human
-Can interact with the human world
-Survives where most C-Lifes can’t exist
Half C-Life
-Can travel through cyberspace
-Enters and exits through other computers

Steel: But we’re all here to talk about more than his status, so let’s talk about his abilities in battle.

Ray: Pulseman’s general weapon is electricity, which helps against things like robots, other C-Lifes, and computer viruses. He can electrically-charge his fists and feet for hi-voltage melee attacks and can shoot waves of energy from his hands.

Steel: He can also charge electricity to further use his attacks by dashing at high speeds. But the move you REALLY need to look out for his his Volteccer, the inspiration behind Pikachu’s Volt Tackle.

Ray: The Volteccer turns Pulseman into a sphere of electrical energy that will bounce off of solid surfaces, render him intangible to projectile attacks, and electrocute anything he touches. While his moveset is rather small, he more than makes up for it with mobility, jumping and bouncing about with ease and moreso with his Volteccer.

MOVESET…
Pulse Punch
Pulse Kick
Pulse Wave
-Blast of electrical energy
Volteccer
-Transforms Pulseman into an electric sphere
-Phases through projectiles
-Bounces off solid surfaces
-Electrocutes anyone he touches
-Unpredictable

Ray: Just a few catches to this move. It will cancel out if he goes a few seconds without bouncing off a surface, reverting him back to his original form. Also, Pulseman has NO control when he’s in this form. It goes in a direction and alters its path whenever it bounces.

Steel: As if that wasn’t bad enough, the little guy is about as durable as wet cardboard. Just three hits and, BOOM, he’s a dead guy. Also, water is his primary weakness, shorting out his circuits on contact and rendering him unable to use his electric attacks.

WEAKNESSES…
Not very durable
-3 hits max before he falls
Water
-Short-circuits his systems
-Turns electricity against him
Little attack variety
Volteccer has flaws
-Electric sphere of similar power can cancel it out
-If it goes without hitting solid surface, it will dissipate
-Uncontrollable

Ray: That said, Pulseman is still a force to be reckoned with. He has brought down Team Galactic, defeated dozens of other C-Lifes and hostile computer programs, and even had to walk the path of Luke Skywalker and defeat his own father.

Steel: This guy would make a great anti-virus software.

(Pulseman punches out a guy’s computer, shutting down the virtual interaction program he was in and leaving him in shock)
Capcom vs. Gamefreak, Light vs. Yoshiyama, whose robotic creation will come out on top in this hi-tech battle?
